Welsh Boatbuilder To Expand
Pembroke boat-building firm to create 100 new jobs
Growing global sales have led to a Welsh boatbuilding firm launch ambitious plans to double their workforce, creating 100 new jobs in Pembroke.
Mustang Marine has secured funding for the Port of Milford Haven to help finance the construction of an extended boat building site in Pembroke Dock.
The company has had a facility in the area for almost 30 years and specialises in building and repairing all kinds of vessels, from workboats to commercial and passengers craft.
Thanks to a flood of new business form emerging markets in Africa and China, Mustang Marine is now expanding its operation to twice the size they are now and is hoping to take on 100 new workers at its new boat building site.
The company was able to secure funds from Port of Milford Haven as part of the authority’s Waterway Enterprise Zone. That has allowed them to start work on their new facility in Pembroke Dock which will cost around £1.5m.
The managing director of Mustang Marine Kevin Lewis is excited about the new level the company is stepping up to with this planned expansion.
“Once these buildings are completed we expect to at least double the number of jobs from the more than 100 skilled men and women we have here today,” he said.
Funding from Port of Milford Haven made this project possible and their chief executive Alec Don believes the money will be put to good news and help overall business in the port.
“Mustang Marine is a world leader. They are exactly the kind of business this port needs and we are keen to help them develop and grow their business,” he said.
