Dalian Wanda buys Sunseeker Boats
Chinese firm completes Sunseeker deal
The anticipated deal by the Dalia Wanda Group to buy a controlling stake in the Sunseeker boat-building company has finally been signed.
The Chinese firm are set to splash out £320m to secure a 91.81 per cent share of the Poole-based luxury yacht building operation.
The remaining 8.19 per cent of shares will be taken up by Sunseeker management and the whole deal is expected to be completed by the middle of August.
Dalian Wanda are no strangers to the UK, with investments in hotels and commercial property, but this is their first foray into the maritime industry. The Chinese company intends to expand its interests in Britain beyond the Sunseeker acquisition and are clearly aiming at the luxury end of the market with the construction of a new five-star hotel and real estate development in London.
The chairman of Wanda, Wang Jianlin believes the acquisition of Sunseeker strengthens their position on the worldwide luxury market.
“Acquiring Sunseeker deepens Wanda’s international influence, further enhances our position in the global luxury, entertainment and tourism markets, and represents an important step forward for the overall development of our business,” he said.
Luxury Yacht Sales In China
“With the committed support of Wanda, Sunseeker is well placed to take full advantage of opportunities in China, one of the world’s fastest growing luxury yacht markets.”
Although Dalian Wanda have a strong global vision, they quelled local worries by announcing that they will retain the Sunseeker headquarters in Poole, with the current workforce and production base remaining in the Dorset town.
Sunseeker founder Robert Braithwaite is another who isn’t going anywhere as he will continued to be involved in the operation and managing director Stewart McIntyre says the this deal can bring the company onto another level.
“We are thrilled to be joining the Wanda family. Support from Wanda will be instrumental in enabling Sunseeker to unlock the enormous potential of China’s rapidly expanding luxury yacht market,” he said.
“Combined with Wanda’s outstanding track record of entrepreneurship and history of commitment to supporting leading global brands, this investment will provide an excellent foundation for Sunseeker’s next phase of growth.”
